Coming up in Jazz Today

So, here's the deal- I'm 26 working on my MM in Jazz Studies here in Philly and have come up against some challenges that I think a lot of young musicians these days are struggling with. How do you guys deal with this stuff?

1. Money- I have to work part time to make ends meet, sometimes up to 35 hours a week. How do you find time to practice while going to school and working? How much can you reasonably expect to practice?

2. Ego- I saw Gary Burton's Generations group with Julian Lang, who is killing it at 19!!!! I realize that music is not a contest, but I feel like getting work IS a contest. How do you deal?

3. Drugs- Booze, Pot and Coke- done 'em all in excess. Knowing what we know about drugs and how they affected those who have come before us, how do you deal?
