Bud Powell (don't transcribe other vibe players)

I’m always telling vibe player NOT to transcribe vibe players, but transcribe piano and guitar players. Just my 2 cents. I think there is more for us to get out of ‘them’ then there is from ‘us’. Sure study Milt, he’s the best but there’s also Bud, Coltrane, Dextor. They invented the style, they were part of it. I would argue that besides Milt and Gary that you’re better off study horn, piano and guitar players.

Man, he’s my favorite piano player. I’ve transcribed him and studied him for years. Don’t know if any of it rubbed off, but he’s the man. If you haven’t checked out his tunes like Celia and Parisian Thoroughfare your missing some cool stuff. My favorite thing about Bud is how he plays through simple harmonies. How he gets around and moves.
